Abstract
1,111,145. Photo-electric plate deflection measurement. SINTEF. Aug. 26, 1965 [Aug. 28, 1964], No. 36681/65. Heading G1A. In a device for measuring the deflection, or an excursion of a membrane or firmly clamped or freely suspended elastic plate 5, Fig. 1, comprising a light source 1, two or more lightsensitive elements 8, 9 and an optical system with lenses 2, 7 and screens 3, 6 provided with slot apertures for rays from the source which are directed against diametrically opposite regions or pairs of regions on the surface of the plate or diaphragm, reflected images of the apertures are directed on to respective screens in a manner partly to overlie the apertures therein and to fall on respective detectors positioned behind them. The reflected images may be directed on to the screen opposite to the ones forming them. The detectors may be photo-resistors or photo-diodes and may be connected in a bridge including two further resistors or two further sensitors which may be on another diameter. The arrangement may be adjusted to respond to plane distance without being affected by rotation, or vice versa, the effects of source variation being self cancelling. The arrangement described may be used as a microphone, or in combination with other plate moving arrangements as a pressure transducer. The plate may be deflected electromagnetically or electro-statically to measure current or voltage. The sensitor may be a photographic strip for recording sound.
