Abstract
The invention comprises monoazo dyes of formula <FORM:1111014/C4-C5/1> wherein R11 is an alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl or cyclohexyl group or a phenyl group which may be substituted by halogen atoms or alkyl, alkoxy, alkysulphonyl or nitro groups, R2 is alkyl, phenyl or carbamoyl, R3 is hydrogen, alkyl or phenyl, R4 is hydrogen, alkyl or cyanoalkyl, R5 is an optionally cyano-, carbamoyl- or alkoxycarbonyl-substituted alkyl group or an aralkyl group, X is an anion and the ring A may contain halogen, alkyl or alkoxy substituents. The invention also comprises the intermediate monoazo dyes prepared by coupling a diazotized 5-amino-pyrazole with an indole and of formula <FORM:1111014/C4-C5/2> The cationic dyes are prepared by quaternation of these intermediate dyes with appropriate agents and may exist in three mesomeric forms. The dyes yield orange shades on cellulose acetate and polyester fibres (unquaternated dyes) and on polyacrylonitrile fibres (cationic dyes).
