Abstract
The invention comprises b (g )-unsaturated a ,d -hydrazo-substituted steroids having the partial formula <FORM:1110833/C2/1> wherein X represents a dienophilic derivative of the carbonyl group and Z represents the remaining part of the steroid nucleus and a process for the preparation of b (g ) unsaturated-a (d ) - hydrazo - substituted steroids, characterized in that a dienophilic derivative of azodicarboxylic acid is reacted with a steroid homo cisoid conjugated diene in which any substituents reactive to said dienophilic derivative have been protected, until a substantial amount of the concerned b (g )-unsaturated-a ,d -hydrazo-substituted steroid has been formed and that the desired product is isolated. As steroid homo cisoid conjugated diene there may be used compounds of the androstane, pregnane or cholestane series and the corresponding 19-nor compounds. As azo-dicarboxylic acid derivative, the acid ester may be used.ALSO:A germicidal and fungicidal composition having bactericidal and bacteriostatic properties comprises b (g )-unsaturated a , d -hydrazo substituted steroids having the partial formula <FORM:1110833/A5-A6/1> wherein X represents a dienophilic derivative of the carboxyl group and Z represents the remaining part of the steroid nucleus, in admixture with a carrier. They may be used in solutions, suspensions or solid mixture to sterilise laboratory equipment or hospital areas.
