Abstract
A non-porous polyurethane sealing, caulking or coating composition consists of a blend of a conventional isocyanate-terminated polymer and a diimine of formula <FORM:1110655/C3/1> wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are H, alkyl with 1-6 carbon atoms, or phenyl; and A is alkylene with 2-6 carbon atoms or non-vicinal arylene with 6-12 carbon atoms. The composition may include up to 75% by weight of inert organic solvent, as well as conventional additives, e.g. carbon black, SiO2, talc, TiO2 and plasticizers. The compositions cure at atmospheric temperature. High humidity speeds curing. Example I uses 1,2-ethylene bis(isopentylidene imine) and a mixture of toluene and 2-ethoxyethyl acetate as inert solvent. Example II compares the performance of a mixture of an isocyanate-terminated polyurethane containing TiO2, lime and aluminium silicate, and 1,2-ethylene bis (isohexylidene imine) with a conventional two-part composition containing no di-imine. Other suitable di-imines are listed in the Specification.
