Abstract

A hydrocracking process comprises contacting a hydrocarbon fraction with a hydrocracking catalyst comprising sulphided nickel under hydrocracking conditions until the catalyst suffers loss in activity, discontinuing the feed of the hydrocarbon fraction while continuing the H2 flow at a temperature of at least 700 DEG F. and a pressure between 0 and 1500 p.s.i.g., displacing H2 from the reaction zone with a non-combustible gas, contacting the catalyst with an oxygen-bearing gas to remove carbon deposits by combustion, displacing the oxygen bearing gas from the reaction zone, sulphiding the catalyst and reinstituting the feed of H2 and hydrocarbon fraction. The hydrogenating component of the catalyst preferably comprises sulphided nickel in amount calculated as metal of 2-10% by wt. of the catalyst, and a sulphide of a Group VI metal, e.g. molybdenum or tungsten, in an amount as metal of 2-35% by wt. of the catalyst. The cracking component may consist of silica, alumina, magnesia or mixtures thereof or preferably a crystalline zeolitic alumino silicate containing less than 6% by wt. Na2O. The oxidative regeneration may be carried out at 700-1100 DEG F. and the catalyst sulphided with H2S, CS2 or t-butyl sulphide at 300-700 DEG F.
