Abstract

1,109,906. Charging & discharging saggars. UPSALA-EKEBY ATKIE BOLAG, 4 Nov., 1966 [30 Nov., 1965], No. 49563/66. Heading F4B. Apparatus for charging a saggar 2 supporting flat ceramic articles P during firing comprises a lifting platform 6 with hydraulic motor 7 by which the saggar can be raised stepwise, a belt conveyer 8 leading from a glazing machine, and a pair of transverse conveyers 10 supported on parallelogram linkages 12 and entering the generally U -shaped saggars to deposit each article in position. The saggars are of the type disclosed in Specification 950,052, and the lifting platform 6 is of similar U-shaped section. Articles approaching the charging zone are lifted by a pair of conveyers 9 and transferred to conveyers 10 by a ram 16 operated by pneumatic motor 15. Automatic sequential operation is ensured by photo-cells 18 and 20 with their respective transmitters 17 and 19 and by a lever 23 controlling motor 7 which drives platform 6. Photo-cell 20 is screened by a baffle 21 depressed by an article P on the conveyers 10. Insertion of said article into the saggar depresses lever 23 to raise platform 6 by one step. Repeated operations load the saggar from the top downwards, every third article on conveyer 8 being removed, the rest being dealt with at other stations. After firing, the saggar passes to a discharge station where a lowering platform and associated conveyers reverse the charging operations, unloading it from the bottom upwards, Figs. 4-6 (not shown).
