A cast iron alloy, suitable for use in making disc-brake rotors, comprises:- .total.C.3.2-3.55% ..Cr.0.15-0.25% ..Mn.0.5-0.8% ..Mo.0.3-0.5% ..Ni.1.15-1.35% ..Si.1.8-2.0% ..P.0.1% max ..S.0.08% max the balance being iron. It is preferred that 0.5-0.7% of the carbon should be in the combined state.
