Abstract

Crystalline polycarbonate polymers are made from a dope of polycarbonate polymer having an inherent viscosity > 0.4 in a mixture of at least one solvent having b.p. < 100 DEG C., at least one solvent having b.p. 100-250 DEG C., and a stiffening agent; the solvents are evaporated successively. The dope may be cast into a film or dry-spun into fibres. The polycarbonate may contain residues of at least one aromatic dihydroxy compound. The stiffening agent may be, e.g. polystyrene glycol or thioglycol; chlorinated aromatic polynuclear hydrocarbons containing 30-75% nuclear Cl; or saturated or unsaturated abietic acid esters or abietyl alcohols or esters thereof. 5-50% wt. stiffening agent may be used.
