Abstract
Gaseous effluents, containing small concentrations of finely divided solids such as ammonium salts, are treated prior to their discharge into the atmosphere by feeding them into the air intake of a gas turbine engine, together with sufficient fuel and air to ensure conversion of the solids into combustion products. The turbine may be of the axial flow type, and may be run on zero net power output or alternatively may generate power which is used to suck the effluent into the intake or to blow the combustion products away or to drive an electrical generator.
