Abstract

1,109,597. Semi-conductor devices. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd., and ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 7 March, 1967 [9 May, 1966], No. 20393/66. Heading H1K. A plurality of PN junction-containing elements contained in a housing filled with a vaporizable coolant liquid, e.g. " Freon " (Registered Trade Mark) are spaced apart but series-connected by conducting spacers which are formed with holes to enable the liquid to circulate around the junction elements. In the arrangement shown the elements 1 are silicon diodes and are clamped between the finned casing 8 serving as one terminal and an insulated screw 13 serving as the other. If thyristors are used in such an arrangement the gate leads extend out through the holes in insulating sleeves and pass through insulating bushes.
