Abstract

1,109,442. Smokers' ash-trays. W. Y. HENDERSON. 27 July, 1965 [21 May, 1964], No. 20924/64. Heading A2M. An ash-tray comprises a non-inflammable block 11, preferably of ceramic material, having a recess 17 for a cigarette SO that the amount of air oxygen which can pass to a lit cigarette placed in the recess is limited causing slow burning of the cigarette. Two blocks 11 may be placed in a casing 12 which includes a cigarette rest 14. The casing 12 is located in a housing 10 under which a tray 16 is fitted. The recesses 17, which are pearshaped in cross-section communicate with the bottoms of the blocks 11 by means of slots which do not extend to the edges of the block so that cigarettes inserted in the recesses 17 are extinguished if allowed to remain therein. The slots register with slots in the casing 12 and control slides 19 with further slots 20 are provided in the housing 10 for regulating the amount of air passing to the recesses. A sliding lid 21 is provided for the assembly.
