Abstract
1,109,296. Catalytic steam-reforming hydrocarbons. OFFICE NATIONAL INDUSTRIEL DE L'AZOTE. 11 June, 1965 [3 July, 1964], No. 24834/65. Heading C5E. In the catalytic steam-reforming of hydrocarbons (except methane) to produce a methanerich gas, heat is provided by supplying a hydrogen-containing gas to the reaction to react exothermically with carbon oxides (to produce methane). The reaction is carried out at 450‹ to 550‹ C. and at 1 to 50 kg./sq. cm., and the flow rates of hydrocarbon, steam and hydrogen-containing gas are controlled to give an autothermic (or exothermic, if desired) reaction. The catalyst may be Ni and/or Co, or a Pt group metal on a refractory support. In an example, light petrol vaporized by superheated steam was mixed in the reactor with a gas (67% H 2 ), all reactants being preheated to 430‹ C., and the mixture reacted over a Ni/Pt catalyst. The product gas (57À9% CH 4 ) was methanated with H 2 at 320‹ C. to 95À6% CH 4 .
