Abstract

1,109,088. Piston rod packings. CARTER CONTROLS Inc. 29 Sept., 1965, No. 41461/65. Heading F2B. [Also in Division F1] A replaceable bearing cartridge 46 for supporting a piston-rod 26 in a pneumatic or hydraulic piston-and-cylinder arrangement comprises a easing 64 which allows limited axial movement of a bearing bush 78 and a packing 80 under the pressure of a spring 84. The casing 64 is screwthreaded into the end of the cylinder and is sealed therein by an 0-ring 68. The bearing bush 78 is preferably made of cast iron and is a slidable fit in the bore of the casing 84 in operation. An inturned flange 64 of the casing serves to retain a grit-excluding rod scraper 72 which is preferably made of metal and is arranged to co-operate with a rod wiper 74 made of rubber, P.T.F.E. or sintered metal.
