Abstract

1,108,437. Intruder alarm. GENERAL ALARM CORPORATION. 14 Jan., 1966 [28 April, 1965], No. 1837/66. Heading G4N. [Also in Division E2] Movement between two relatively movable members releases a magnetically held switch to actuate an alarm. The lock of a door, Fig. 2, includes a magnet 39 which is held upright by a co-operating member of magnetic material in the lock keeper 17 when the door is shut. Opening of the door by an unauthorized person removes the magnetic force holding the magnet upright, and allows it to tilt closing a mercury switch 36. Authorized opening of the door by turning a key in lock 29 raises a plunger 40 to retain the magnet 39 in the upright position, thus inhibiting the alarm. The alarm may be a horn or siren 14 mounted in the door or the unit may energize a transmitter to actuate a remote alarm. In modifications, Figs. 12, 17 (not shown), the member in the lock keep is in the form of a circular magnet arranged to normally attract the magnet 39. An attempt to force the door lock causes the magnet to rotate until it is in a position to repel the magnet 39 and actuate the alarm without the door being opened. Details of the lock mechanism are also described (see Division E2).
