Abstract

1,107,983. Load supports for masted lift trucks. R. J. CRANSTON and A. E. C. EVANS. 5 Oct., 1964 [8 Oct., 1963], No. 39689/63. Heading B8H. The outer ends of the load-supporting tines 11 of a fork lift truck-are provided with pivoted toe-pieces 14 which are adapted to raise a load to assist the movement of the tines under the load. Each toe-piece 14 is pivoted at 12 to a rod 13, which is slidable in a slot 15 in the tine 11, and rests on a pin 18 mounted on the tine. In operation, the truck is run forward until the outer ends of the toe-pieces 14 move under the edge of the load and as the truck continues to move forward the weight of the load prevents forward movement of the toe-pieces and the rods 13 are moved into the slots 15 against the action of compression springs 17. During this inward movement of the rods 13, the pins 18 cause the outer ends of the toe-pieces 14 to be raised to raise the edge of the load to the level of the upper surface of the tines 11. A load-supporting endless belt 21 extends between the tines 11 and is supported by rollers 23, 24. An endless belt 25 is supported on rollers 26 between the tines with its upper run in frictional engagement with the lower run of the belt 21 and with its lower run in frictional engagement with the ground when the tines 11 are in their lowermost position. When the truck is moved forward, the upper run of the belt 21 is moved rearwardly, relative to the tines 11, by the belt 25 at the same speed as that of the truck, whereby, when the forward portion of the upper run of the belt 21 engages the edge of the load which has been raised by the toe-pieces 14, the load is in effect pulled on to the tines 11. Rollers may be provided on the upper surfaces of the toe-pieces 14, and the toe-pieces may be raised hydraulically.
