Abstract

110,757. Andresen, U. S. N. Oct. 26. 1917. Ironing - machines with pressing action only.-A machine for performing fancy ironing on starched and ironed collars, shirt fronts, &c., comprises a series of spaced irons 13, 15, 17, adapted to be lowered on to the work on a table or support 61, the middle iron being relatively fixed and the others adjustable from it by means of a hand-screw 29. The irons are carried bv an inclined bar 7 guided non-rotatably in a boss 6 on an arm 4 projecting from a bearing 5 rotatable about a vertical shaft 1, so that the irons may be swung bodily to one side of the machine, the movement being normally limited by a spring pin 59 engaging a groove in the upper end of the bearing 5. The irons are raised or lowered by means of a counterbalanced handlever 43 supported in a rocking bearing 44 mounted in a fork 47 depending from the bearing 5. A weighted arm 55 is mounted on the squared end 54 of the pin 45 carrying the bearing 44, and assists in maintaining the irons in the raised or lowered positions. The table 61 comprises a wood top fitted to a forked frame 63 carried by an upright member 62 connected rigidly with the shaft 1 by members 64, 69. The irons may be heated by gas or electricity: in the former case, flexible connexions 36 are provided in the gassupply pipe 35. A curved portion 60 on the middle iron 13 engages with a similar part 70 on the table to smooth neck bands, the part 70 having a central groove to facilitate correct setting of the work.
