1,107,391. Wells &c. diving-chambers. SOCIETE D'ETUDE DU TRANSPORT ET DE LA VALORISATION DES GAZ NATURELS DU SAHARA "SEGANS". 9 March, 1965 [14 March, 1964; 24 Jan., 1965], No. 9884/65. Headings E1F and EIH. [Also in Division F2] A subaqueous well has a production tubing 21 supporting a distributor 15 and delivery conduits 19, the tubing being telescopically mounted within casing 1c so that the distributor and conduits may be raised to, or adjacent to, the waters surface by supplying air to a ballast tank 14 fixed to the distributor. Prior to raising the tuibing the distributor is disconnected from the wellhead 4 by releasing latches 9 by supplying air to a tank 12. The tubing is steadied by chains 16 during lifting of the tubing. The air is supplied to the tank 14 by conduits supported by floats and the tanks 12, 14 may be combined. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the conduits are joined to a ring main (121) supported on a curb (101) surrounding the well, the distributor having conduits (122) each with a releasable connection (124) for attachment to the main. A submergible vessel (110) for the supply or removal of air from the tanks has a rod (111) adapted to be releasably connected to a block (104) surmounting the distributor. A platform (126) rotationally and axially movable with respect - to the vessel carries controllers 127 .. 130 for actuating valves (123), (125), (149) and the connections (124) from the vessel. When the vessel is connected to the distributor, the connections (124) are broken, and the appropriate valves are closed, air is supplied to the tanks to lift the tubing, the vessel being raised by blowing its own tanks. When the tubing is lowered the vessel is guided by television, and the platform is positioned rotationally and vertical against stops, the terminal positions being shown in the vessel by electrical indicators. The vessel may be used to lift the tubing in the event of damage to the tanks. In a further modification (Fig. 10, not shown) the vessel (110) carries a diving bell (166) on the rod (111) the bell and vessel having a connecting passage (167) for divers, and the wellhead being surrounded by a curb on which the diving vessel rests.
