Abstract

1,106,933. Liquid-meters. MINISTER OF TECHNOLOGY. July 4, 1966 [April 2, 1965], No. 14178/65. Heading F1A. A liquid-meter, e.g. for measuring fuel consumption, comprises radially disposed cylinders A, (B), (C) Fig. 1 (not shown), with pistons 2 connected to a common crank-shaft 1, rotary valves 6 and 6a on the crank-shaft controlling flow to and from the outer ends of the cylinders, and the inner ends of the cylinders being connected through openings 9a with a crank-case chamber of constant volume which is filled by leakage past the pistons, with liquid at a pressure intermediate the inlet and outlet pressures of the meter to reduce further leakage past the pistons. For counting the crankshaft revolutions, a magnet may be built into one of the rotary valves 6, 6a, and actuates a magnetic reed switch in the meter casing to produce a pulse which is recorded on a counter. A filter may be provided in the meter inlet, and a pressure-responsive by-pass valve between the inlet and outlet.
