Abstract

1,106,925. Lift control systems. J. E. SIMPSON. 2 April, 1965 [6 April, 1964], No. 14204/65. Heading B8L. [Also in Division G3] A control tape is attached to the car of an elevator and passes through a detector unit which comprises a plurality of photo-resistive cells and lights associated with each cell. The detector is activated by groups of control apertures in the tape, each group being disposed in a different characteristic pattern for each floor, and being positioned on the tape so as to pass through the detector when the car is in the proper position for actuation of a deceleration control unit if the car is to stop at the next floor. For each floor, there is a single aperture scanned by one cell, and, in another portion of the tape, there are 0-4 apertures in predetermined patterns associated with four other cells. A detector unit comprises five inputs, one for each cell, and ten outputs, one for each floor. The input of the single cell permits the other cells to read the tape, the resulting input, or lack thereof, to the input channels of the other cells determining which output circuit is energized. If the lift is at the first floor and a call is received from the eighth floor, the lift is moved upwardly so that the tape moves upwardly through the detector unit. Detector relays corresponding to each floor are energized in succession by the detector. When the group of control apertures corresponding to the eighth floor pass through the detector and the detector relay is actuated, a circuit is completed through floor position contacts to the deceleration control system whereby the lift is stopped at that floor.
