Abstract
1,106,881. Moulding valve seats. CRANE Ltd. 7 Feb., 1966, No. 5193/66. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F2] A method of making a resilient seat for a fluid control valve comprises seating a valve body 4 on the base member 2 of a mould, clamping in the body a core assembly 12 containing an O-ring retainer insert 19 by means of a bolt 23 filling the mould with rubber before closing the mould with an upper member 3, and then vulcanizing the rubber under heat and pressure. The core assembly comprises a hollow plug 16 with an insert holder 25 spigoted therein while the bolt 23 screws into a tapped hole in a flat portion 6 of an upstanding projection 7 of the base member 2. In a modification (Fig. 7) the core assembly is held in the body 4 by an hydraulically actuated plunger (32). In either embodiment the body 4 may be a dummy.
