Abstract

1,106,013. Reflecting signs. ELASTIC STOP NUT CORPORATION OF AMERICA. 30 June, 1965 [30 June, 1964; 23 June, 1965], No. 27801/65. Heading G5C. The surface of a reflecting sign consists of a plurality of contiguous cube corner units 22, each unit consisting of four differently oriented cube corner reflecting elements 40, 42, 44, and 46. Each element, e.g. element 40, is provided with three faces 48, 50, 52 inclined downwardly from a common apex 54 at right angles to each other, the intersection of two faces extending to one corner 57 of the square boundary of the element while the other faces intersect along lines which extend to points 60, 62 at predetermined distances from the comers. Each element is identical in formation but each is oriented at 90 degrees with respect to the adjacent element. A complete reflector bounded by circumference 39 (Fig. 1) and moulded of plastics consists of units 22 in its central portion and units 32, 34, 36, 38 in its marginal regions. These marginal units also consist of four trihedron elements but the intersecting lines of the faces of these elements all extend to points at predetermined distances from the comers of the square boundaries of the elements. The reflector is made by grinding cube corner faces 132, 134, 136 on the ends of pins 124, 126, 128, 130 (Fig. 4) which are of square crosssection, assembling four such pins oriented at 90 degrees to an adjacent pin to form a unit, assembling a plurality of such units in a holder, making a mould from the cube corner faces of the pins, and therefrom moulding a reflector with the required surface formation.
