In a magnetic element for a memory store having two or more thin magnetic films 1, 2 with adjacent films separated by thin layers 3 of non-magnetic (preferably at least partially conductive) material as in the parent Specification, parts of the non-magnetic layer or layers are omitted in certain areas so that the adjacent magnetic films are not separated in those areas. The non-magnetic layers may be omitted around the edges of the magnetic films or at those edges parallel to the easy axes of the magnetic films or may be divided into a plurality of separated strips parallel to the easy axis.
