Abstract

1,105,976. Infrared detector arrangement. CSF-COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. June 11, 1965 [June 22, 1964], No. 24900/65. Heading G1A. An infrared photo-conductive detector e.g. a mercury doped germanium cell (1) Fig. 1 (not shown) is cooled to a very low temperature in an enclosure including a store (5) of liquified gas to limit thermal effects, and a field effect preamplifier (11) for the element output. The element is mounted on a sapphire (6) on the gas container to provide thermal conduction and electrical insulation, and an aluminium screen (7) is included in the exhausted space bounded by an outer container (4). A germanium window (3) in the outer container and an aperture in the aluminium screen permit the passage of the radiation. Potential at point A, Fig. 2 (not shown) between the detector element and a ballast resistor (22) insulating from incident radiation is applied to gate (19) of a fieldeffect device (26) through a capacitor (27) to provide an output across a resistor (30). A signal in phase with a variation at (A) is applied at point (B) to widen the useful frequency band while bootstrapping the plate-grid parasitic capacitance.
