Abstract

1,105,724. Gas distribution systems. O. H. DRAGER, [trading as DRAGERWERK, HEINR. & BERNH. DRAGER]. 28 Feb., 1966 [26 Feb., 1965], No. 8749/66. Heading F4X. A gas supply device having two high pressure gas storage batteries intended for supplying oxygen or compressed air to a consumer incorporates a device for changing over from one battery to the other, comprising pressurereducing valves 17, 18 incorporated respectively in conduits 4, 5 which conduct the stored gas from the batteries (I, II respectively, Fig. 1). The outlet conduits from the valves 17, 18 are connected together and to the inlet side of a further pressure-reducing valve 25, the outlet from which is a common conduit 27 leading to the consuming points. The pressure-reducing valve 18 incorporates a pressure output adjusting chamber 18a which can be connected to the conduit 27 by way of lines 28, 29 between which is a two-way, three port valve 15. The outlet pressure of the pressure-reducing valve 17 is set to a greater value (e.g. 8 units) than that of the valve 18 (e.g. 6 units), and on starting up, with both storage batteries charged, the valve 15 is set at a position L which opens the line section 28 to the atmosphere at 30. In this way, the gas from the first storage battery (I) flows from conduit 4 and valve 17 through the pressure reducing valve 25 until the supply is exhausted as indicated by pressure gauge 19. The valve 15 is then manually changed over to the position R, thereby interconnecting the line sections 28 and 29 and exerting pressure in the chamber 18a due to the pressure (e.g. 5 units) in the conduit 27, and consequently increasing the pressure of the gas output from the pressurereducing valve 18 to a pressure (e.g. 5 + 6 = 11 units) which is greater than that of the output from valve 17, thereby allowing gas from the second battery (II) to flow through valve 25; the first battery (I) can then be recharged with gas. Pneumatically operated electrical switches 31 are connected to the high pressure conduits 4, 5 which switches are incorporated in the electrical circuits of indicator lamps (13a and 13b, 14a and 14b, Fig. 2). The switches 31 may also actuate an automatic changeover valve (36, Fig. 2), the valve 15 then being a three-way, four-port valve with an " automatic " position (A, Fig. 2).
