1,105,677. Advancing hydraulic mine roof supports. BERGWERKSVERBAND G.m.b.H. Nov. 29, 1965 [Dec. 10, 1964], No.50632/65. Heading F1P. Each of a group of automatic sequentially advanced hydraulic coal face support units 11 -- 19 carries an electric feeler switch 4 which is normally held closed by engagement with the coal face and which on being opened when the prop is released from the roof results in an associated control apparatus 8 generating an electric pulse which initiates advance of the unit, the subsequent re-setting of the prop and reclosing of the feeler switch 4 and the sending of a pulse to initiate the release, advance and resetting of the next unit in the sequence; the feeler switches 4 being arranged in series in a line 9 whereby advance of a unit is initiated notwithstanding that advance of the preceding unit may be incomplete e.g. due to the roof bar striking on low position of the roof providing that the feeler switch of said preceding unit has been reclosed. The base of the front prop and the advancing cylinder 6 of each unit carry feeler switches 5, 7 held closed by engagement with the conveyer 10 and by the retracted ram respectively and are in series in a lead connecting the associated feeler switch 4 and the control apparatus 8. Thus if advance of a unit is prematurely arrested and results in closure of switch 4, 5 or 7 then advance of the next unit in the group is automatically initiated.
