Abstract

1,105,338. Joint-making packing. FELT PRODUCTS MFG. CO. 18 Oct., 1966 [10 Dec., 1965], No. 46518/66. Heading F2B. A cylinder head gasket 11 for an internal combustion engine comprises two superimposed metal sheets 27 and 28 clamped together in face-to-face contact around the combustion openings 18 by flanges 41 and 42 of a third metal sheet 37, thereby forming: non-cornpressible seals surrounding the combustion openings. The sheet 37 comprises annular sections 38 and bridging sections 39, the inner edges of the sections 38 being bent around the combustion openings 29 and 31 in the sheets 27 and 28 to form the flanges 41 and 42 respectively. A resilient filler 43 of asbestos and rubber is interposed between the sheets 27 and 28 in the areas remote from the combustion openings and the fluid passageway openings 22 in the gasket are defined by portions of the sheet 28 which extend through openings 44 and 34 in the filler 43 and sheet 27 respectively and have flanges 36 abutting the sheet 27.
