Abstract

Loop transfer is achieved on a hand operated flat bed machine by deflecting a needle above the adjacent needle in the same bed to enable the second needle to penetrate and take the loop from the deflected needle. The cam carriage of the machine has provision for advancing the needle to be deflected and in the advanced position the needle is lifted from the base of its bed. Deflection is achieved by the needle engaging a slotted wheel or other projection mounted on the carriage such that when the needle is superimposed on the adjacent needle the latter is advanced by the needle cams to penetrate the depending loop of the deflected needle. A projection extends from the cam carriage to retain the loop extended on the deflected needle to ensure penetration by the receiving needle. Alternatively a brush may be used to hold the loop extended on the needle.
