Abstract

1,104,793. Laminates. DUNLOP SEMITEX Ltd. 23 Sept., 1964 [15 Oct., 1963], No. 40533/63. Heading B5N. Composite sheet material for. floor or wall coverings is produced by extruding a sheet 3 of thermoplastic material between the nip of a pair of calender rolls 4 and 5, and at the same time feeding upper and/or lower sheets 6 and 7 between the rolls so that the sheets are united by pressure, the calendering operation being carried out at a point near the extruder so that the extruded sheet is in a hot and plastic condition. The thermoplastic material comprises polymers or copolymers of vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, and vinyl acetate. The sheet 3 may be derived from a composition comprising a mixture of chips of thermoplastic sheeting which may be of different colours to give a marbled effect. The composition may include plasticizers, fillers, stabilizers, lubricant and pigment. Upper sheet materials specified are polymers and copolymers as above, a sheet of clear P.V.C. with a reverse printed pattern on its underside laminated to a P.V.C. sheet. The lower sheet may be of polymers or copolymers as above and may be cellular. The composite sheet may be cut into tiles.
