Abstract

A detergent composition having disinfectant activity comprises monochlor- or monobrom-ortho-phenyl-phenol and a synthetic surface active agent comprising an alkylolamide, an alkyl aryl sulphonate, a secondary alkyl sulphate or an alkyl aryl sulphonate with an alkyl sulphate or ethoxylate or with an alkyl phenoxy ethylene glycol, or a mixture thereof. The synthetic surface active agent may constitute an ingredient of a detergent base for the composition. The detergent base may comprise (a) the synthetic surface active agent together with a viscosity regulator such as xylene or toluene sulphonate, urea or NaCl; (b) as in (a) together with inorganic salts as builders; or (c) the synthetic surface active agent and pine oil, a terpene hydrocarbon or an essential oil with or without an alcohol e.g. ethyl or isopropyl alcohol. The amount of monochlor- or mono-brom-ortho-phenyl-pheno may be 1-10% in the case of (a) and (b) and 0.5 to 5% in the case of (c).ALSO:A disinfectant composition comprises monochlor- or monobromortho-phenyl-phenol and a synthetic surface active agent comprising an alkylolamide, an alkyl aryl sulphonate, a secondary alkyl sulphate or an alkyl aryl sulphonate with an alkyl sulphate or ethoxylate or with an alkyl phenoxy ethylene glycol, or a mixture thereof. The synthetic surface active agent may constitute an ingredient of a detergent base for the composition. The detergent base may comprise (a) the synthetic surface active agent together with a viscosity regulator such as xylene or toluene sulphonate, urea or NaCl; (b) as in (a) together with inorganic salts as builders; or (c) the synthetic surface active agent and pine oil, a terpene hydrocarbon or an essential oil with or without an alcohol, e.g. ethyl or isopropyl alcohol. The amount of monochlor- or monobromortho-phenyl-phenol in the disinfectant composition may be 1-10% in the case of (a) and (b) and 0.5-5% in the case of (c).
