Abstract

1,104,111. Liquid filter. C. E. KNIGHTCLARKE. 11 Nov., 1966 [16 Nov., 1965], No. 48626/65. Heading B1D. Three hollow filter elements 24A, 24B, 24C are mounted on an angularly movable valve plate 13 together with an enclosing transparent cover (12), and plate 13 has a passage 32 leading into the cover (12) and a passage 30 communicating with the element interiors, which passages are arranged to communicate with liquid inlet 18, filtered liquid outlet 19 and drain outlet 20, in fixed base 11, so that the elements are backwashed by unfiltered liquid when valve plate 13 is rotated to the appropriate position. Elements 24 may be coloured dark and light at opposite ends to facilitate inspection for solids accumulation. Fig. 1 shows the normal flow position with inlet 18 aligned with passage 32 and drain 20 closed by the lower face of plate 13, for inward flow through elements 24. Bolt 17 is slackened and plate 13, cover 12 and elements 24 rotated 60 degrees anti-clockwise to close outlet 19, align passage 32 with drain 20 and direct unfiltered liquid from inlet 18 into passage 30 to backwash the elements. A lug (16a) engages in arcuate keyway 11a to limit the angular movement. The filter is used for preparing water for photographic development.
