Abstract

1,103,999. Controlling vehicle suspension height. ALFRED TEVESMASCHINEN-UND ARMATURENFABRIK KOMM. GES. 10 June, 1966 [23 Oct., 1965], No. 26003/66. Heading B7D. In a vehicle suspension system comprising a variable-height suspension strut 6, 7, 8, 9 for each wheel and a single control line for supply and return of pressure fluid extending between each strut and a central height control unit 1, each strut 6, 7, 8, 9 includes valve means which permit entry of pressure fluid to the strut from its control line when the strut is below a set, raised position and permit discharge to the line when the strut is above a set, lowered position. When a parking brake is applied or a door opened as the vehicle comes to rest a signal is transmitted by mechanical, hydraulic electric or pneumatic means to the control unit 1 which connects the control lines to a return line 4 so that the vehicle body is lowered to the set, lowered position to facilitate passenger entry. As the door is closed a second signal is transmitted to the control unit 1 which connects the control lines to an accumulator 2 charged from a pump (not shown) through a supply line 3 and a non-return valve 10, whereupon the body is returned to the set, raised position. Automatic means act on the control unit 1 when the body reaches the set, raised position to cut-off communication between the control lines and the return line 4 or accumulator 2 when the vehicle is running.
