Abstract

A solid solution of a quinacridone and the corresponding quinacridonequinone is produced by heating an aqueous acidic dispersion of the quinacridone in comminuted form in the presence of an amount of a chromate oxidizing agent stoichiometrically sufficient to oxidize a desired proportion of the quinacridone to the quinacridone-quinone. The oxidizing agent may be chromic acid, sodium chromate or sodium dichromate. The comminuted form of quinacridone may be obtained by salt-milling or acid-pasting.
