Abstract

1,103,623. Aerials; inductive signalling; radio signalling. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS G.m.b.H. 21 May, 1965 [23 May, 1964], No. 21646/65. Headings H4A, H4L and H4U. A wireless personal call system using two frequencies for transmission comprises an induction loop for low frequencies and at least one resonant aerial for high frequencies, the latter being fed through at least part of the cable which constitutes the induction loop. As described, a cable 3 comprising two lines 1, 2 is formed into a loop around an area to be served and its ends are connected to the primary windings of two transformers 7, a low-frequency signal for transmission being fed to the two centre taps 12 thereof. Folded high-frequency dipoles 6 are connected across the lines 1, 2 via decoupling resistors 5 and transformers 4, and signals received by them are coupled through the transformers 12 to two receivers 8, 9. A diversity device provides for connection of the receiver having the stronger signal to an amplifier 10 which is connected to a loud-speaker 11. The dipoles may point in various directions so as to cover the whole area to be served, and they may be arranged for receiving signals having different polarizations. The low-frequency signal for transmission is supplied to the induction loop by a transmitter 14 having a microphone 18 and an output transformer 13. Connection to the centre points 12 of the transformers 7 is made via wave-traps 15, 16 and a loop tuning variable capacitor 17 is provided. A mobile station for operation within the service area comprises a microphone 22 connected to a highfrequency transmitter 23 and a high-frequency aerial 24, and also an induction loop aerial 19 connected to a low-frequency receiver 20 and a loud-speaker 21. In an alternative arrangement, an area containing a building is served by a lowfrequency transmitter by means of an induction loop around it, and an area outside is served by a high-frequency transmitter by means of resonant aerials fed through the cable which forms the loop.
