Abstract

1,102,975. Mixing machines; chemical contact apparatus. D. FINLAYSON. 19, July, 1965 [25, July, 1964], No. 29866/64. Heading B1C. A machine, suitable for mixing powders, or liquids, or liquid and powders, comprises a horizontal cylindrical tank 1 rotatable about its axis and having internal fins 7 which scoop up the mixture during tank rotation and carry gas or vapour into the mixture. The fins are tapered or have edge recesses to impart to the mixture a motion axial of the cylinder. The tank, made of stainless steel, transparent polystyrene, or polyester resin and fibre glass, may be supported on trunnions (as shown) or by circumferential tracks on the outside of the tank and running on rollers. For temperature control the tank rotates in a water bath 8 or may be provided with a water jacket with feed pipes entering via the trunnions, these trunnions also being suitable for emptying and filling the tank. The tank may be filled and emptied through a manhole 6 and the tank may be tiltable for emptying its contents through an orifice in one end. The tank may be longitudinally divisible.
