[Also in Division F3] A method of forming a tubular component of a container comprises helically winding a plurality of layers of sheet material 2, such as paper, glass fibre, metal or plastics, on to a mandrel 1 and, while winding the last layer 6, applying a thermoplastic material 5, such as polythene, polyvinyl resin, polyacrylates, polyamides or polyurethanes, to the outer surface of the last layer and between the same and the previous wound layer 7. Said material sets to form a continuous sealing sheath extending the length of the component. As illustrated in Fig. 1 and Fig. 1a (not shown), the thermoplastic material is fed from a stationary container 4 which is disposed diagonally across the strip and mandrel or longitudinally of the mandrel. At least two body and cap components 11 and 12, Fig. 2 (not shown), each made by the method described above, form an ammunition container. A sleeve (not shown) on the body slidably engages within the bore of the cap and a joining or sealing element 15 of plastics material in the form of a heat-weldable tape, a collar extruded on the joint, or a plastics film extends across the joint. Metal rim bands 13 and 14 are provided to serve as guides when the cap and body are to be separated by a cutting tool.
