Abstract
110,269. Mossay, P. A. H. Feb. 3, 1917. Dynamos and motors, cooling; armatures and field magnets, cooling.-The heated air enclosed within the machine is circulated (as indicated in full lines) through one series of tubular passages 7 provided in the casing, and cold air or other fluid (indicated in dotted lines) is passed, for example by a fan 37, through channels 10 arranged between the passages 7; the two currents do not intermix but an exchange of heat is effected between them through the medium of the material of the casing. The end frames 1, 2 of the machine are connected by a number of hollow ribs 5 which register with openings in the end shields 8, 9 forming separate connexions between the passages 7 and channels 10. The hollow ribs 5 may be made of corrugated sheet metal. The cold air and hot air may be circulated in the same or in opposite directions. Part of the cold air may be by-passed through holes 23 in the stator laminµ 6 by the use of suitable flanges 18, 19 on the end frames 1, 2. The channels 10 may be covered by a removable outer cover or casing 17.
