110,258. Chance & Hunt, Holley, A. E., and Webb, H. W. Jan. 20, 1917. Plastic compositions containing soluble silicates. -An acid-resisting cement consists of acid-resisting siliceous material, a solution of silicate, and not more than 5 per cent. of plaster of Paris or calcium sulphate, or a mixture of materials forming calcium sulphate. In an example, 8 parts by weight of ground stoneware are mixed with 7 parts of Leighton sand, 2 parts of ground blue brick, 3 parts of sodium silicate solution 60‹ Tw., and 0.12 part of plaster of Paris. Finished work made from the cement is subjected to a temperature of 100‹ C. for several days or to a higher temperature for a shorter period. The product is suitable for the erection of chimneys to take acid fumes, for reaction and absorption towers, and for acid storage tanks.
