Apparatus for weighing livestock comprises a platform 10 (Fig. 2) connected to a support structure 11 in such a way by a pair of parallel links 12 on each side of the platform 10 that deflection of one of the links or an extension 12A to one of the links due to downward movement of the platform 19 under the weight of an animal actuates a weight registering device 16 to indicate the weight of the animal. Each link 12 is connected to a lug 13 on the platform 10 and a lug 13A on the support structure 11 and at least one of the pairs of links is provided with upstanding parallel auxiliary arms 14 inter-connected by a bar 15 in order to ensure that the platform 10 remains horizontal during weighing. The platform 10 may form part of a cage or may be either a flat floor or a number of inter-connected parallel bars on which a cage may be mounted. The weight registering device 16 which may be a spring balance or steelyard may be connected to the link extension by a chain, rod or the like. Alternatively, a pointer which registers with a scale mounted on the cage may be attached to an auxiliary arm whose movement due to weight on the platform is controlled by a spring.
