Abstract
1,102,396. Breast prosthesis. H. G. ARION. 29 April, 1966, No. 18842/66. Heading A5R. A breast prosthesis, intended to be located inside the body behind the mammary gland, comprises two circular elements of thin flexible film of a silicone elastomer joined in fluidtight manner at their peripheries to define a chamber capable of being crumpled so as to pass through a very small incision made in the body. Joined to and opening into the chamber is a flexible tubular neck through which a filling medium may be introduced into the chamber after insertion thereof into the body through the incision. A plug, optionally together with a ligature, is provided for sealing the neck. In the fitting thereof, the prosthesis 12 (see Figure 4), after being inserted into the body in a crumpled state 11 (see Figure 5) through incision 9, is positioned between the chest wall 14 and the wall 10 of the mammary gland 13 and is inflated to the desired degree by introduction of an introprosthetic liquid, for example water or a suitable physiological serum, through the tubular neck which thereafter is recessed in the body after sealing with a stainless steel plug 6 optionally provided with a safety ligature which is not tightened.
