Abstract

A motor vehicle is provided with a telescopic probe for measuring ambient radio-activity. The probe head 9 houses a counting tube mounted on telescopic members which retract into a tube 8, inside the cladding of the vehicle where the probe is protected in a dust-and splashproof manner, preferably hermetically. When extended, the probe is covered by a protective sleeve 10. By providing a plurality of superimposed sleeves the outer one of which is stripped off each time before a measurement, contamination free measurements are obtained. The probe is connected to a measuring device 2 in the instrument panel of the vehicle.
