Abstract
1,101,350. Fluidized reactors. DISTINGTON ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. 2 Nov., 1965 [4 Nov., 1964], No. 45030/64. Heading B1F. In a reactor in which a solid is fluidised by admitting a gaseous medium through a distribution plate 11, corrosive attack on a steel shell 12 in the event of the lining vessal 10 failing and gas leakage occuring is prevented by spacing the lining vessal 10 from the shell 12 and filling the space therebetween with the gaseous medium at a higher pressure than the pressure existing within the lining vessal 10, thus any leakage of gas resulting from failure of vessal 10 will be inwardly from space 13 to the interior of vessal 10. The space 13 is connected by a pipe 15 with the introduction chamber 14 for the gaseous reactant. A valve may be provided in the pipe, enabling any leakage to be determined. The differential pressure between the space and interior of vessal 10 may vary with the distance above the plate 11 if the fluid energy absorbed by the fluidised bed is high, in which case the space 13 is divided into compartments (Fig. 4, not shown) with valved pipes leading to each compartment to control the pressure in each compartment.
