Abstract

110,134. Berry, H. H. July 16, 1917. Imitation fires.-In imitation fires of the kind wherein one or more electric or other lamps or burners are fitted behind a screen made of a combination of transparent and opaque materials, and particularly fires, such as those described in Specification 108,827, wherein the heat of the lamps &c. moves devices which produce a flicker, the " fuel," i.e. the transparent and opaque materials, consists of glass-furnace skimmings broken up to the size of lumps of coal as or dinarily used in open fire-places. Preferably the skimmings are coloured and only partly crystallized, and are partly opaque, or " milky." The waste products of glass manufacture are generally utilized, but glass, preferably flint glass, may be specially melted to produce them. The blocks may be coloured as desired, or may be coated with coal dust or ashes, or other opaque or coloured &c. material. Instead of colouring the blocks, coloured lamps or coloured glass between the lamps and the screen may be used.
