Abstract

1,100,434. Monitoring reactors. GESELLSCHAFT FUER KERNFORSCHUNG m.b.H. 22 Feb., 1965 [21 Feb., 1964], No. 7461/65. Heading G6C. In nuclear reactor fission product detector, reactor coolant gas flows through a chamber containing a precipitation electrode which partially surrounds and is close to the sensitive volume of the detector, which is of the miniature type. The decomposition products of the fission products, xenon and krypton, i.e. caesium and rubidium, are collected in the electrically charged precipitation electrode and the associated alpha and beta radiation measured by the detector. The small dimensions of the detector and electrode render the arrangement insensitive to the radio-active gas particles. The cathode enclosing the counting chamber of the detector may function as the precipitation chamber.
