July 27, 1916 Couplings, disconnectible; with valves. - A coupling-device for connecting a flexible hose to a train-pipe in a fluid-pressure brake system comprises one part a, Fig. 1, adapted to be connected to the train-pipe and having an axially movable valve f, and a second part n hinged or flexibly connected to the first part and adapted to be secured thereto by a connecting-link t, the act of securing causing the valve f to be opened and maintained open. The seating d for the valve is held in position by a threaded ring c carrying a central sleeve j which, with a spider i, forms the guide for the valve-rod e on which is arranged a spring detent n, Fig. 4. When the part m is secured to the part a, an abutment p engages the end of the rod e and unseats the valve f, and the detent n engages behind the sleeve j thus securing the valve in the open position until it is released by hand by depressing a finger g. The link t for securing the parts together has at one end a slot u for engaging a catch w on the part m and at the other end a threaded part s passing through a tapered opening r in the part a and carrying a tightening-nut q. When a faulty hose provided with a part m is to be replaced, the catch w is first released by unscrewing the nut q, then the part m is swung downwards and the valve f allowed to close by depressing the finger g on the valve-rod, and finally the removable hinge-pin z is withdrawn to separate the two parts a, m.
