Abstract

1,099,762. Semi-conductor pulse dividing circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Oct. 21, 1966, No. 47147/66. Heading H3T. A digital divide by two circuit includes a resistance memory device RM1 which has a voltage-current characteristic as shown in Fig. 4. In Fig. 3 the device RM1 is biased in the low resistance condition at Q and a first negative input pulse P1 from a generator G changes the state of the device into the high resistance condition which it maintains when this pulse ends and is then biased at V B . The next negative input pulse P2 changes the state of the device to a low resistance condition biased at Q so that for every two input pulses one output pulse of voltage V B is produced which may be filtered to produce a further output (Fig. 5C, not shown). In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 6, not shown), the output is taken across an additional resistor connected between the device and the earth connection. The device RM1 consists of a thin metalinsulator-metal sandwich which holds its high or low resistance condition to which it has been set for a delay or relaxation time, during which time input pulses applied to the device have no effect on its state. The D.C. source V s may be applied intermittently so as to save on power supplied to the circuit.
