Abstract
Organic sulphides of the type <FORM:1099427/C2/1> wherein R is 1-6 C alkyl, or the two R's taken together represent an alkylene radical, are prepared by reacting a thioacid of formula R1COSH with an anhydride of formula <FORM:1099427/C2/2> wherein R1 is C1- 5 alkyl, and R is as defined, at ambient temperature, and separating off the resulting sulphide by fractional distillation. Specific R groups are -CH3, or when taken together, -CH2-CH2-. Reaction suitably occurs below 30 DEG C., and the carboxylic acid formed in the reaction may be removed at at least one intermediate stage in the reaction.
