Abstract

1,099,122. Fluid filter element. TECALEMIT (ENGINEERING) Ltd. Sept. 15, 1964 [Sept. 26, 1963], No. 37925/63. Headings BID and BIT. A filter element 1 for filtering oil or air is sealed to its casing by at least one pair of annular, resilient lips 13, 14, 18, these lips projecting from the element and deforming during assembly in the casing to produce a partial vacuum between the lips of each pair which holds them in contact with a casing member 26, 36, 32. As shown, the end caps 2, 3 of a filter element 1 are made of polyvinylchloride or synthetic rubber and have integral radially inwardly extending lips 13 (Figs. 1, 6, not shown), which seal with central stud 26, and concentric, axially extending lips 14, 18, which seal with flat plates 36, 32 (Fig. 4, not shown). The casing comprises an inlet 22 and outlet 23. The element 1 comprises an annulus of pleated or spirally-wound paper (Fig. 2, not shown) or an extruded or moulded 'star-section' of foam rubber or plastics. In Fig. 5 (not shown) retaining spring 37 and plate 36 are omitted and the element is attached to plate 32 only by the suction in deformed lips 18. Fig. 7 (not shown) illustrates a pleated paper element whose pleat fold lines extend radially between two neoprene sealing annuli, and which may have integral lips as described above to seal the element in its casing, described in Specification 909,891. The pairs of lips are described above as integral with end caps or sealing annuli, but they could be made as ring elements of more resilient material and adhered to the end caps or sealing annuli.
