Abstract

1,098,575. Retractive switches. T.I. (GROUP SERVICES) Ltd. July 4, 1966 [July 7, 1965], No. 28731/65. Heading H2B. [Also in Divisions F2 and G1] In photo-electric apparatus for scanning the surface of a specimen, (see Division G1) a limit switch is provided for reversing the co-ordinate motors driving a specimen table when a limit of the scanned area is reached. The switch comprises a rod 56 carrying a cylindrical member 57 which is contacted by the specimen table 48 at the limits of the scanned area. The rod is normally biased against the edges of square holes in contact plates 60, 61, 62, 63 by a spring located in a bore 69, but as soon as the table 48 bears against the member 57 the rod breaks contact with one of plates 60-63 depending upon the direction in which the table 48 approaches member 57. A number of tables may be provided with different shaped recesses 55 so that different areas may be scanned.
