Abstract

1,098,255. Lasers. SIEMENS A.G. Feb. 18, 1965 [Feb. 18, 1964], No. 6984/65. Addition to 1,068,052. Heading H1C. [Also in Divisions G1 and G2] A laser or maser communication system uses a laser or maser source in which a high degree of amplitude modulation is applied to the output beam by coupling modulation as in the parent Specification and a demodulation system in which the carrier intensity of the received signal is increased relative to the side-bands prior to demodulation in a square law detector. The receiver may comprise a laser or maser amplifier 111, Fig. 1 (not shown), to half of which is applied a magnetic field by a coil 107 and in which only the carrier wave is amplified. The amplifier may be a He-Ne laser in a resonator or a Dy doped CaF 2 laser without a resonator.
