Abstract

1,098,139. Panels for furniture. G. CLEMENTS. June 1, 1966, No. 24473/66. Headings A4B and A4H. [Also in Division B5] A panel e.g. for use as a table top or shelf or as a facing panel for internal or external decoration of the building comprises a first layer of marble 11 bonded to a second supporting layer of metal 12 over at least the major portion of the area of the first layer. The layer 12 as described is steel and the marble layer is bonded to the steel layer by masons mastic or an epoxy resin. When the panel is to be used as a table top the layer of marble extends beyond the periphery of the metal layer and the metal layer is stamped to form lugs for the attachment of legs or alternatively the legs are formed integrally with the layer. When the panel forms a shelf the layer 12 may be provided with means for receiving brackets, for example it is stamped with lips to engage the brackets. When the panel is intended for cladding building elements, such as walls, the layer 12 extends beyond the periphery of the marble layer and is drilled to receive fixing bolts.
